The MERE Unit supports health professions education scholarship by providing guidance to individuals engaged in medical education research and program evaluation.

Our unit provides the following services to the WashU Medicine Community:

  • Consultation for educational scholarship (i.e., research or evaluation projects with intent to disseminate results via publication or presentation). A MERE expert will provide consultation on scholarship ideas and projects.
  • Consultation for developing applications for the Small Grants Program. This is a requirement of the small grants program. You will be asked to upload your preliminary draft in preparation for the consultation.
  • Consultation for program evaluation with no intent to disseminate results via publication or presentation to achieve identified short and medium program outcomes.
  • Data requests to be used for research, program/curriculum evaluation, or other scholarly projects, regardless of intention to disseminate results. Data requests may include existing student feedback on the Gateway curriculum, assessment, coaching, professionalism, student affairs and facilities/access. This includes both internal and external (AAMC) aggregated data. Email MERE for samples of survey instruments.
  • Requests to survey WashU students or recruitment of medical students to participate in research using surveys, interviews, or focus groups.
