The Goldstein Visiting Professorship (formerly the Goldstein Leadership Awards) is made possible through an endowed fund established by Samuel R. Goldstein in honor of former Dean, Dr. William Peck.
2025: Dr. Cornelius James
Dr. Cornelius James, a nationally recognized leader in medical education, clinical reasoning, and digital health innovation was the first Goldstein Visiting Professor. He shared his insights in a keynote titled Physicians in the AI Era: Redefining Tasks, Tools, Teams, and Teaching.
Dr. James is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School, where he practices as both a general internist and general pediatrician. He directs the Evidence-Based Medicine Curricular Thread and serves as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He also contributes nationally through roles on the Academic Medicine editorial board, the MedEdPORTAL AI Collection, and advisory committees focused on AI in healthcare. Dr. James leads the Data Augmented, Technology Assisted Medical Decision Making (DATA-MD) initiative, which prepares clinicians and interprofessional teams to effectively leverage AI and machine learning in diagnostic decision-making.
