Dr. Amjad Musleh has been named as the new Director of the Gateway Coaching Program at WashU Medicine. Dr. Musleh, an accomplished clinician in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine and dedicated educator, brings a wealth of experience and passion for student development to this role.
Dr. Musleh completed medical school, residency in emergency medicine, and fellowship in emergency medical services at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. In 2017, he joined WashU Medicine to complete additional fellowship training in critical care medicine. Since this time, he has provided exceptional clinical care across a spectrum of environments in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), Christian Hospital, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He currently serves as the medical director of Jefferson College Paramedic Program, co-medical director of the BJH Acute Care Team and co-director of critical care ultrasound, overseeing fellowship training for point of care ultrasound for fellows across all divisions of critical care medicine.
Across his career, Dr. Musleh has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to direct teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring and coaching, contributing significantly to the education of learners across the educational spectrum. He has been recognized with numerous educational awards, including the 2020 Golden Stethoscope Award for Excellence in Clinical Bedside Teaching, the 2021 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Didactic Teaching, the Rising Star Award from the WashU Academy of Educators, and most recently the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award at WashU. He joined the Gateway coaching program in 2020 and has served as the assistant director of coaching since 2022.
In his capacity as director of coaching, Dr. Musleh will be responsible for the development and deployment of the coaching curriculum, faculty development for coaches, and close, ongoing partnership with other curricular leads to ensure vertical and horizontal integration of the undergraduate medical school curriculum.
