Dr. Amanda Emke from the Department of Pediatrics will join the Office of Medical Student Education as the Director of Assessment beginning Monday, July 1, 2019. Dr. Emke came to us from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine for her pediatrics residency in 2002 and she additionally completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care. Presently she is the Associate Director for the fellowship in pediatric critical care and also serves as co-course director for the pediatrics thread.
She received a Masters in Health Professions Education in 2017. She is a recipient of the Samuel R. Goldstein Leadership Award in Medical Student Education and a Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Teaching fellowship. Dr. Emke is an expert in the use of team-based learning and she has developed an innovative assessment system for critical care medicine fellows that includes both daily clinical-based and quarterly thematic assessments to identify early performance gaps and enhance self-directed learning. Her specific knowledge and skills in the area of assessment will be very important to the process of realizing a competency-based curriculum for our medical students.
